Ready to abandon iPhone for the Droid X

I’ve been a Mac advocate for over 10 years. I have two Macs and an iphone and few complaints. However, the last update to iOS 4 on my 3G iPhone has proven to be nothing but frustration. iOS 4.1 did improve things for a couple of days… I’ve turned off services I don’t use to speed up the phone…

I’ll spare the world another rant about Apple. Truth is, I love Apple. But this last update is the last draw. Forcing your customers to upgrade to the latest hardware after two years of ownership is simply outrageous. Between AT&T’s substandard connections, products integration, services… and the iPhone 3G shortcomings, The Droid X is looking pretty awesome. Android makes a lot of sense for a person who uses many of Googles services to begin with too.

How to vertically align custom bullets and text with CSS

These solutions provide a cure for Internet Explorer 7, 6 and 5 which do not permit the vertical alignment of list-style-image bullets. The fixes below work uniformly across Operating Systems (Mac, PC and Linux) and their respective browsers.

Tell Your iPhone to Stop Opening iPhoto!

Thank you very much Michael Krol!

Will the iPhone ever support an open source operating system?

It seems to me this would make the most sense (though, perhaps, not the most money). It might eventually be inevitable with the open source movements gaining more ground.

One of Apples best moves, IMHO, was opening their intel systems up to allow Windows XP to run natively. In fact, that’s what convinced me to purchase a new Mac instead of adding a PC to my work station. Why not kill two birds with one stone? I bet the ability to run windows on a Mac (through boot camp or virtual machines) has persuaded a lot people to make the switch.

Why not extend this to the iPhone? Naturally, they won’t do it to unless consumers demand it. Wouldn’t it be nice to run Google’s Android (open source) software?

Shouldn’t one of the most expensive phones on the market be truly open?

Write to the US Senate about the Orphan Works Act now!

The bill may still be amended while under debate of the full Senate. Write to your senators and urge them to amend the bill, and ask them to vote against the bill if it is NOT amended…

The following link will take you to the Graphic Artist’s Guild Advocacy page where they have done most of the work for you:

Orphan Works Act of 2008

Hysteria is quickly escalating amongst creative circles in the bay area and beyond. Friends are sending desperate pleas to write their congressmen/senators and to boycott all the major corporations that are funding this bill; mainly Microsoft, Google, Corbis and Ghetty.

We, the creative community, must unite and take action to ensure that our copyright protection is maintained within acceptable standards. My goal is to amass as much reliable information as possible with which to base an effective plan of action.

A plethora of information (including links to the actual drafts of the two versions of the bill) can be found at the Graphic Artists Guild online, http://gag.org/

Let’s organize and stick it to the man!

Mac Pro with a broken mic input?

I’ve just confirmed that my Mac Pro has had a broken microphone input since I purchased it over a year and a half ago. Lame! Am I the only one with this problem?

Musical inspiration

Musical inspiration has struck again. I’m composing tunes and jamming out with friends again. Totally rad!

My latest artwork – Snake

My latest artwork, a Photoshop piece that isn’t entirely complete.
I’m thrilled with the progress so far and felt a need to share it.
I forgot how much fun it is to play in Photoshop!

New Virtual Gallery Designs in Second Life

I have decided to scrap the idea of simulating reality. Instead I will be focusing on all of second life’s advantages (i.e. flying). Why walk when you can fly or teleport?

I’ll be taking a purely artistic approach to the matter…
