Mac Pro with a broken mic input?
Posted on April 13th, 2008 by Miles
I’ve just confirmed that my Mac Pro has had a broken microphone input since I purchased it over a year and a half ago. Lame! Am I the only one with this problem?

Your not the only one dude! I’ve been having problems for about 8 out of the 9 months that I’ve had my Mac Pro. Started with wireless mouse connections. We’ve gone through 2 bluetooth mice and 4 USB/RF ones. Their tech support has even tried to blame our very thin particle board desk! Now I just went to plug in my mic to use for an online class and whata ya know, another problem. I did a search and found your complaint here! I just had to let you know you’re not alone. I am a web/graphic design student right now and I love the computer, but this is getting ridiculous. Looks like another call to Apple tomorrow! Wish me luck!

I don’t know if you are having this same problem. But, I did find this discussion that helped me. Mine needs an amp. I plugged my ipod(which of course has a built in amp) into the mic input on the Mac Pro and it pics up the sound as indicated through the input level under system preferences>sound. So I either need to purchase a USB mic or that imic they talk about. Here is the discussion:
